Protocol for ordering Meals on Wheels
- The Meals on Wheels (MOW) program is a program that supplies noon meals 7 days a week, 365 days per year to elderly and disabled people in the city limits of Madison, Middleton and Monona. The program delivered approximately 90,000 meals in 2008.
- The meals are prepared by the Hoffman House and are delivered by volunteers. There is a monthly menu on our website here
- The meals can be prepared for special diets such as:
- General
- Cardiac (low fat, low sodium, low cholesterol)
- Diabetic (ADA, sugar free, low fat)
- Renal (low sodium, high carbohydrates, lactose free)
- Soft (ground meat)
- Vegetarian (no meat)
- Gluten-free (no flour, bread, pasta, gracy, potatoes, breaded fish or chicken, no meatloaf, meatballs or processed foods)
- The meals come in microwave-able containers. Each meal includes: a protein, a starch, a vegetable, a salad, a bread item, a dessert, and a carton of milk or juice. The meal also comes with a free newspaper. There is a free coupon in the brochure and on our web site so they can try a meal at no cost
- The cost is $6.60 per meal. We bill recipients monthly for the meals that they receive. If the cost of the meals is a financial hardship, there is funding available through Dane County (for patients over 60) and United Way (for patients under 60).
