Home Health United (HHU) is excited to announce they are now offering palliative care services as of the first of the year. The palliative care program is already operational in the Janesville area, and will eventually be implemented across HHU’s entire service area.
Lynne Willer, HHU VP of Home Health United Care Services, said "This is an important addition to the continuum of care HHU provides because it’s a much-needed area of healthcare that many patients and providers may not be familiar with. We’re already seeing a large number of Palliative Care patients who could have probably benefited from this type of care before now, but there was just no one to provide it. Now we’re here to do just that."
Palliative Care, in addition to Home Health and Hospice programs, provides patients with the appropriate level of care at the right time. The program supports patients and families as they face chronic or quality of life limiting illnesses, and focuses on the relief of symptoms, pain and stress, and can be provided at any stage of serious illness.
Palliative care is not the same as Hospice. Patients can transition from Home Health to Palliative Care services in the case of a serious illness. If a patient decides not to seek curative treatments and life expectancy is six months or less, they may choose to receive Hospice.
"Our partner hospitals St. Clare in Baraboo and St. Mary’s in Janesville have been instrumental in getting this program started," continues Willer. "They’re very enthusiastic about HHU offering Palliative Care."
In addition to palliative care, Home Health United provides a variety of services to patients and families across southern Wisconsin, including home health, hospice, home medical equipment, community health and wellness programs, infusion pharmacy and immunization clinics.
