Baraboo, Wisconsin - The dedication of a computer that was gifted to the St. Clare Hospice House from the SJS Cancer Support Team felt more like a reunion of friends instead of a presentation. And that's exactly how the Team wanted it.

The Spencer-Johnson-Schell Cancer Support Team is made up of three Baraboo residents who have all personally had their lives affected by cancer. They raise funds to help other affected patients and families locally.

Jacki Crawford has also helped raise funds for the Team for many years, so when her brother Jim Baumgarten needed Home Health United - Hospice services after battling cancer, she knew she wanted to help the Team do something to honor him. The Team and Hospice staff decided a computer that patients and families could use in the House to Skype loved ones who couldn't be together in person was just the thing.

Jim stayed his last days in the St. Clare Hospice House, where this dedication, or reunion, recently took place.

Jim's wife Linda was also there for the dedication, reminiscing about when Jim came to the Hospice House. I remember the first time Jim came in here. He came in and looked around, and said 'wow, I'm impressed!', and then had a bowl of ice cream!

Judy Spencer, a member of the SJS Cancer Support Team, added that's the great thing about this place (the Hospice House), everyone can come and visit and feel comfortable. And now even the people who can't actually come and visit can still see their loved ones thanks to the new computer with Skype capabilities.

The SJS Cancer Support Team has raised and allocated around $50,000 since they started, their focus now being local efforts. Kevin Schell of the Team said, We try to help out wherever we can. And before the night ended, the Team had committed another $300 to the House to purchase new items for the kitchen.
