Meals on Wheels

More than just a meal

Often seniors and disabled people lack adequate nutrition because they are unable to shop or cook meals for themselves. Home Health United - Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious noontime meals to elderly and disabled individuals who live in Madison, Middleton and Monona every day of the year. Many of these recipients live alone and benefit from the personal contact and safety check provided by Meals on Wheels volunteers.

The volunteers deliver a daily newspaper as well as the meal that can be prepared for these special dietary needs:

  • General
  • Cardiac (low fat, low sodium, low cholesterol)
  • Diabetic (ADA) sugar free, low fat
  • Renal (low sodium, high carbohydrates, lactose free)
  • Vegetarian (no meat)
  • Soft (ground meat)
  • Gluten-free (no flour, bread, pasta, gravy, potatoes, breaded fish or chicken, no meatloaf, meatballs or processed foods)

Each meal includes: a protein, a starch, a vegetable, a salad, a bread item, a dessert, and a carton of milk or juice. Our kitchen can accommodate most requests or preferences. They come in microwave-able and oven safe containers so you can reheat your meal if you wish to eat it at a later time.

You can choose to have meals delivered once a week or as often as you like; on a short-term basis or long-term.

Cost of the meal is $6.70. However, funding is available for those who qualify. The program is supported with funds from Dane County Human Services, United Way of Dane County and Home Health United Meals on Wheels donors.

Call 276-7598 today! Meal delivery can usually begin within 24-48 hours.
